“What a fucking AWESOME poster.” Said Allie Bailey. “LOOK!”
OK, we like to think of ourselves as an oasis (arf arf) of positivity in the vast swamp of internet negativity* at the best of times, but bloody HELL! This week has been a bit good. In case you’ve missed anything so far:
Kicks off with a new Blur song. Yeah, we keep expecting it to go into Whiter Shade of Pale too, but let’s wait for a full band recorded version ‘till we judge it, yeah?
Pulp announce Royal Albert Hall show.
A new Tindersticks album (not technically Britpop, but we love ‘em)
A new Dodgy album (under-rated at the time, destined to be under-rated again)
A new Cast album (well, let’s not judge it without listening)
Kicks off with the announcement that not only are Blur playing a gig at Hyde Park, but they’re supported by THE SPECIALS and NEW ORDER. Which – unless they announce that Pulp’s RAH show is supported by Scott Walker performing the entire of Scott 4 – is basically our line-up of the year.
Bis announce a gig at The Lexington in London
Blur performing at the Brits
Taking all this into account, plus the fact that in the next couple of months we’ve got tickets to see Marion, My Life Story and The Stone Roses, can you all please cross your fingers and hope really hard for a Rialto reunion please? Or Longpigs. Ooh! Longpigs.
*This can be boiled down to two statements:
a) OMG THIS THING THAT I HAVE NOT SEEN THAT HAS JUST BEEN ANNOUNCED IS GOING TO BE SH*T! DESPITE THE FACT IT HASN’T EVEN BEEN MADE/HAPPENED/ETC YET!
b) THIS THING THAT I JUST SAW/WENT TO/WATCHED/READ IS NOT AS GOOD AS IT WAS BEFORE WHEN NO-ONE LIKED IT.
